Melanie
Mason: Bendin' the Blues
2001: Melanie Mason
Melanie Mason has a smoking CD on
her hands. "Bendin' the Blues" is a combination of greasy playing,
gritty vocals, and hot recording and production. It is so nice
to hear another great blues record out of the Washington, DC area.
Packed with hot players, this CD is anchored by the rhythm section
of Sam Goodall (bass), and Mike Utz (Drums). Also throwing in
on the jams are Benjie Porecki (Organ/piano) and Mickey Meikeljohn
(Harmonica). Upon looking at the credits, I wondered if Melanie
would be able to keep up with her band…..my fears were short lived.
The CD is packed with great guitar work, both in feel and tone,
and gritty vocals. The entire package is blended masterfully by
Producer/Engineer Bob Dawson, whose ears complement the ensemble
just like another instrument. Fat tones, and poppin' mixes make
"Bendin' the Blues" a must-have for any blues enthusiast. I expect
more smoking blues from Melanie in the future.
