This self titled release takes you
through a wide variety of styles and impressions. From the smoky
jazz clubs of France in the 20's and 30's to the swamps and bayous
of the American south. Esther Haynes has put together a wonderful
eclectic collection of music that should appeal to anyone who
loves vocal jazz. Much like the women she idealizes….Alberta Hunter,
Bessie Smith, and Lil Green, Esther Haynes has a powerful yet
playful approach, one that puts the listener on edge and at ease
all at once. This is a foot tapping good time that would be great
traveling music this fall. Something to get in the car and drive
with. Along with Haynes, this CD contains a diverse cast of musicians.
Accompanied by banjo, mandolin, standard rhythm section, nice
horns, harmonica, and some very tasty electric guitar, the arrangements
are beautiful and totally compliment her style. This CD is extremely
well produced and recorded as well. A wonderful addition to anyone's
collection. http://www.hokummusic.com
